The text of the article.
The final volume of the manuscript, including the list of references, tables and figures, is:
For a problematic article - up to 23 pages.
For a review article - up to 28 pages.
For a research article - up to 18 pages."
For other types of publications - up to 8 pages.
All abbreviations (except for the generally accepted abbreviations) must be disclosed at the first mention.

Publication of the manuscripts describing clinical cases is possible only in the format of series of cases (3 cases and more) and only in case of high clinical and scientific significance.
The following structure of original articles is adopted in the journal:
- Introduction
- Materials and Methods
- Results
- Discussion
- Conclusion
Introduction. This section describes the rationale for the relevance of the study and formulates the aim of the study.
Actuality - a short (1-3 sentences) description of the problem that was the main reason for the study. Characteristics of a problem may be its scale, indirect effects, and/or lingering knowledge gaps.
Aim - the section should contain a description of the main (primary) aim of the research, the research question, the solution of which required the research. Moreover, the description of the scientific problem should be extremely specific and not be reduced to comparing “everything with everyone”.
Materials and methods. The section begins with a description of the design study and should contain brief information:
- About objects of research (healthy, sick, data),
- About the presence comparison group,
- The criteria for inclusion, non-inclusion, exclusion in the compared groups,
- About the presence and characteristics of the intervention,
- About the location of the study,
- About the duration of the study,
- About outcomes (parameters for assessing the research result corresponding to its main aim),
- A description of how to evaluate outcomes.
The editorial board of the journal “V.M. Bekhterev Review of Psychiatry and Medical Psychology” recommends (does not oblige) the authors to use the following checklists and schemes developed by international health organizations (EQUATOR, Enhancing the Quality and Transparency of Health Research) in the preparation of original articles and other materials. When preparing articles reflecting the results of randomized clinical trials - "CONSORT 2010 check list of information to include when reporting a randomized trial".
When preparing articles reflecting the results of non-experimental studies - "The Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology (STROBE) Statement: guidelines for reporting observational studies".
When preparing systematic reviews - "PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses)".
When preparing a description of clinical cases - "The CARE Guidelines: Consensus-based Clinical Case Reporting Guideline Development".
When preparing articles reflecting the results of qualitative research - "SRQR (Standards for reporting qualitative research)".
When preparing articles reflecting the results of predictive studies - STARD 2015: An Updated List of Essential Items for Reporting Diagnostic Accuracy Studies.
The use of statistical terms such as “randomized”, “significant”, “correlations” and “sample” should be avoided to denote non-statistical terms. Manuscripts of articles in which the design of the study does not correspond to its purpose and objectives may be rejected by the editorial board of the journal.
It is necessary to indicate which computer programs are used in the work, what statistical methods were used to substantiate the findings.
A sufficient explanation should be provided for all statistical terms, abbreviations and symbols used. For example, M is the sample mean; m is the error of the mean; σ is the standard square deviation; p is the achieved level of significance, etc. If the statistical criteria used have limitations in their application, indicate how these limitations were tested and what the results of the tests are. The accuracy of the presentation of the results of the calculated indicators should correspond to the accuracy of the measurement methods used. Average values should not be reported more than one decimal place more than the original data. It is recommended to round off the results (averages and variability indicators) of measuring the indicator to the same number of decimal places, since their different number can be interpreted as different measurement accuracy. Instead of the phrase “statistical significance”, the phrase “statistical significance” should be used, indicating the obtained significance level.
Prior to the start of the study, the design and analysis of published articles should be developed, on the basis of which the study sample size should be calculated and a statistical analysis plan should be drawn up, which should describe in detail the methods of preparing and analyzing the data and presenting the analysis results.
The results of the statistical analysis should describe in details:
- Presentation of data on the disposition of research participants (CONSORT diagram): the number of participants not included in the research (indicating the reasons); number of included (screened, randomized - if applicable) participants; the number of participants who received treatment in the study (if applicable); the number of participants who completed the study according to the protocol, the number of participants included in the statistical analysis, and other subgroups of participants, if applicable in the study.
- Presentation of demographic, clinical and other baseline characteristics of study participants.
- Methods for analysis of study endpoints: statistical tests used, level of significance, corrections for multiple comparisons (if applicable), statistical characteristics of performance indicators.
- Submission of safety data, including adverse events and other safety indicators of special interest - if applicable.
- Data on concomitant therapy, including therapy of special interest (if applicable).
Analysis of research data should be carried out in strict accordance with a pre-agreed statistical analysis plan. Any deviations from the planned analysis should be justified and detailed.
Results. This section should contain a brief description of the research objects (the number of those included in the research who completed it, the most significant characteristics of the participants) with an assessment of the research outcomes related to its purpose. The section in a logical sequence presents the research results in the form of text, tables or figures (graphs, diagrams). Avoid repetition of data from tables or figures in the text; only important observations are highlighted or summarized. Graphs are used as an alternative to tables with large amounts of data. It is recommended to indicate the confidence interval or standard deviation on graphs and charts. The graphs must have labels and markings of axes, units of measurement are indicated.
Discussion. The section includes a description of new and important aspects of the results of the study, analysis and interpretation of the data obtained, in comparison with similar or similar data from other researchers. It is allowed to include sound practical clinical recommendations and the possible subsequent application of the results obtained. When examining the effectiveness of medical interventions, it should be indicated what was the criterion of effectiveness. When examining diagnostic tests, it is necessary to provide the calculated indicators of the sensitivity and specificity of the diagnostic method and compare with the standard, if available. It is recommended that review articles describe the methods and depth of search for articles, criteria for including the found materials in the review.
Conclusion. The section presents the results of solving the research problem indicated in the title and the purpose of the article, formulated in the form of conclusions. The conclusions of the work must be confirmed by the results of the statistical analysis.

References. References is a part after the text of the article. Links to unpublished works are not allowed. The reference number in the text of the article is enclosed in square brackets and must correspond to the numbering in the list of references. The list of references lists the authors in alphabetical order (first, sources published in Russian are given, and then - foreign works). Bibliographic references in the text of the article are given in square brackets with numbers in accordance with the list of references. According to the rules, taking into account the requirements of the international citation systems Web of Science and Scopus, other references in languages other than English should be given not only in the original language, but also in the Latin alphabet.
